The type approval for driving all categories pf road vehicles on the public roads

• it is required in case of importing/trading/manufacturing more than 10 new road vehicles of the same type, regardless of the period of time, by the same legal entity. The type approval can be granted only to Romanian artificial persons, manufacturers or importers/distributors agreed by the manufacturer of the concerned vehicles.
  
• it consists of checking the road vehicles from the road safety and environmental protection point of view in order to allow their circulation on the public roads in Romania.

The reference documents which form the basis for the type certification are:

- The European Union Directives (noted CE or CEE, according to the issue year) and the International Regulations of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations Organization (noted ECE-UNO);
- R.N.T.R. (Regulations and Technical Standards in Road Transports) - 2 (Regulations regarding the technical conditions that the road vehicles must comply with in order to be allowed in traffic of the public roads in Romania);
- The ISO Standards 9001/2000;
- "Guidelines for preparing the product file" ("Indrumarul pentru intocmirea dosarului produsului") - RAR (Romanian Road Vehicle Registry) issue in force upon the vehicle presentation date for approval;
- The specific approval procedure;
- The Law no. 374 on December 13, 2005 regarding the approval of the Government Ordinance no. 35/2005 for the amendment and supplement of the Government Ordinance no. 78/2000 regarding the road vehicle approval and the issuance of their identity documents, in order to be allowed in traffic of the public roads in Romania;
- The ORDINANCE no. 35 on July 14, 2005 for the amendment and supplement of the Government Ordinance no. 78/2000 regarding the road vehicle approval and the issuance of their identity documents, in order to be allowed in traffic of the public roads in Romania

Based on the Type Approval Certificate, which has unlimited validity (as long as the legislative conditions which were the basis for the approval are not amended), obtained subsequent to the type approval procedure, the merchants (importers and autochthonous manufacturers) receive an unlimited number of identity documents (CIV) for the vehicle type which obtained the approval.

N.B.: the self-propelled cars for works and the cars for works which do not come from road vehicles (classified according to the Ensemble Resolution of the ECE-UNO R.E.3, such as: auto-chassis, utility vehicles, tractors, general use trailers, etc.) do not receive identity documents and no approval certificate is issued (example: the Stalowa Wola frontal loaders, excavators similar to Castor, street rollers, motorized graders, etc.).
