The regulations under which the type approval is granted:

- R.N.T.R. - 2 (Regulations regarding the technical conditions the road vehicles must meet so as to be allowed to roll on the Romanian public roads);

- Government Ordinance 78/2000 and Government Ordinance 35/2005 on the amendment and supplementation of Government Ordinance 78/2000;

- The specific procedure PS-E100-01;

- Law no. 374/2005 for the approval of Government Ordinance no. 35/2005 for the amendment and supplementation of Government Ordinance no. 78/2000 on the approval of road vehicles and the issuance of the identity cards thereof, in order to allow them to roll on the Romanian public roads.

The type approval can be requested for a single type/variant of vehicle or for a family of vehicles (the grouping is performed by similitude criteria: body, motorization etc). The family approval provides the advantage of smaller costs reported to the variant type and the decrease of the approval period.

What documents do I need:
The required documents are set out in the “Guidelines for the draw-up of the product file - RAR edition in force on the date of the presentation of the vehicle approval". This leaflet together with the “Official type approval application" and with the “Questionnaire for the preliminary assessment of the quality of the production process" (if the manufacturer does not have an internationally acknowledged certificate of the quality system) it shall be procured from one of the addresses set out above.

The main stages of the approval process:
- the submission of the official type approval application and of the approvals documents (see the previous item);
- the analysis if the documentation and the draw-up of the related estimate;
- the control of the compliance of the vehicle presented for approval with the submitted documentation;
- the draw-up of the testing program and of the related estimate;
- the performance of the testing program;
- the draw-up of the testing report;
- the assessment of the results of the tests, the granting of a approval number and the draw up of the related estimate;
- the draw-up of the approval certificate.

According to the non-compliances and malfunctions appeared during the process, the program shall be changed accordingly (tests comebacks, changes of the technical specification, supplements for the approval file, derogation requests etc).

How much does it cost:
The tariffs are according to the complexity of the vehicle (from moped category LI to buses category M3), the volume and the complexity of the documentation, the number of tests, the size of the vehicle family (if such may be the case).

Term:
According to the complexity and volume of the documentation, the degree in which it corresponds to the requirements specified by the “guidelines for the draw-up of the product file - RAR edition in force on the date of the presentation of the vehicle for approval", the work load of the department, the meteorological conditions, the vehicle’s behavior at tests (including the check of the compliance) etc.
